Cooking School Locations
No matter where you live, an accredited culinary education is not far away. From the barbeque of Texas to the rich foods of Vegas, the culinary student will find schools in cities for every appetite. Here, we highlight a few of the more popular destinations, but see below for a more complete city listing.
Los Angeles
People from more than 140 different countries call Los Angeles home. This diversity, in addition to a thriving tourism trade, has drawn some of the world’s best chefs and restaurateurs to the city, plus some of the world’s top lodging establishments. Students in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management programs will find that Los Angeles is a fabulous location to study their trade and find opportunities for hands-on learning experiences.
Dallas
Besides its reputation for beef production and award-winning chili, Dallas prides itself on its Tex-Mex cuisine – a spicy blend of Texan and Mexican cooking. Area restaurants offer nearly every other type of cuisine as well, providing restaurant and cooking students with plenty of opportunities to gain experience in a wide variety of culinary areas. Also of note is the city’s large tourism trade. To support this trade, Dallas has 65,000 hotel rooms. In addition, the area’s convention and banquet facilities are considered as being among the best in the nation. These features can provide a great learning atmosphere for students of Hospitality Management programs.
Chicago
Cooking students in Chicago might be most familiar with the Windy City’s famous deep-dish pizza, and we can’t forget the greasy Cheezeborger from the Billy Goat Tavern. But the Second City also boasts over 7,000 restaurants, including some of the most distinctive hot spots for foodies in the U.S., such as Alinea and Spiaggia Restaurant, a favorite haunt of President and Mrs. Obama. Chicago culinary students will be inspired by the work of top chefs like Charlie Trotter, Arun Sampanthavivat, and Rick Bayless, as well as cuisine from Chicago’s 75 distinct cultural neighborhoods, from Little Saigon to Greektown.
Atlanta
From soul food to traditional cuisine, Atlanta has a large mix of culinary establishments, making it a great location for students studying in the culinary fields. In addition to the many dining facilities in the area, other area attractions and activities make tourism one of the more important aspects that drives the city’s economy. Atlanta also has many Fortune 500 companies located in the city, providing the area with a strong business-travel trade. These features help students of Hospitality Management programs who are looking to enhance their education by obtaining hands-on practice in their chosen trade.
Las Vegas
In recent years, Las Vegas has become a true oasis in the desert for foodies. Once known for large all-you-can-eat buffets, Las Vegas now boasts ritzy hotels like the Bellagio and the Mirage with restaurants that will inspire any Las Vegas culinary student. Famous Las Vegas chefs include Helene An for Crustacean at Desert Passage, Gian Paulo “Zeffirino” Belloni at Zefferino Ristorante at the Venetian, and Wolfgang Puck at Spago and Chinois at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. Las Vegas cooking students can bet on satisfying their appetite for culinary success at cooking schools here.
